IIT-Madras student suicide: Special investigation team interrogates Fathima's father
Chennai: The special team of the Central Crime Branch investigation which began an investigation into the IIT Madras student- Fathima Lateef's death case interrogated her father and hostel staff on Saturday.
The police officials told media that Fathima's father Abdul Lateef was questioned over his version of the case and his conversations with Fathima in the past few days. From the past 25 years, Abdul had been working in Dubai while his family is settled in Kerala. According to a report, a CCB team comprising additional commissioner of police C Eswaramurthy, deputy commissioner of police- G Nagajothi and additional deputy superintendent of police- Meghalina visited the IIT-M campus and held inquiries. The police officials visited the staff members of Sarayu hostel of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Madras, where Fathima had been lying until her death.
Earlier this week, Abdul Lateef had met the police commissioner A K Viswanathan seeking a fair probe in the matter. However, the special team is yet to question the professors who were named in the suicide note by Fathima. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu cabinet minister and organising secretary of the AIADMK, D Jayakumar on Saturday said that the inquiry will be conducted in IIT Madras student death case and strict action would be taken against the culprit.
Speaking to a news agency Jayakumar said that Fathima's father Abdul has raised some questions and had met Chief Minister and DGP of the state. The inquiry will be made and the culprit will be charged, he added.
