Grand Mufti of India calls for a fight against “extreme ideologies"
Moulana Mufti Asjad Khan, the Grand Mufti of India has called for a fight against “extreme ideologies that are spreading worldwide.” He stated this in an official statement of Jamaat Rasa-e- Musthafa, a Barelwi clerical body, which condemned the multiple bomb blasts in Sri Lanka in the strongest possible terms.
“We condemn all terrorist attacks. The suicide attack that took lives of innocent Sri Lankan citizens is a heinous crime meant to induce fear. We express our horor at the event,” he said.
“These extreme ideas must be fought tooth and nail and their financial souces must be stopped. This is the responsibility of rulers of various countries,” he said.
This is his first response to a global issue after taking over as Grand Mufti of India last month which has followed the demise of Taj al Sharia Moulana Akhtar Raza Khan Ashari. It was in the 16th conference of Sharia Council of India, convened at the Barelwi Sharif, the headquarters of Barelwi Muslims, that the new Mufti was elected.
