50 killed, in fuel tanker road crash in DR Congo

MATADI: Around 50 people were killed and another 100 suffered serious burns after a fuel tanker collided with a vehicle on an arterial highway in the west of Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday. The incident occurred near the city of Kisantu, about 120 kilometres (100 miles) west of Kinshasa, highway linking the capital Kinshasa to port of Matadi on the Atlantic Ocean. One hundred people suffered second-degree burns, Atou Matabuana, the governor of Kongo Central region said. The UN’s Okapi radio said “the flames spread rapidly engulfing nearby houses.”
